This next song, I have some inside information about. This is from Bill Boetticher: "I attended Valley College with Judee in 1965-66 and was with her when she put the Antiwar Song together. At the time I could transcribe music quicker than she could and she wanted to have the song ready for a song writing contest in the music department. We went into one of the practice rooms and I recorded the song on a tape recorder that I had brought from home and then wrote out the music for her. I gave her the recording and the music transcription and she went on to win the contest with that song - beating out about a dozen others including Frank Hamilton who had just completed a stint with the Weavers - she was thrilled as well as surprised that she, an antiwar song and her guitar could actually win. Judee called the song 'A Poor Tender Maiden's Lament Concerning the World's Situation At Present or Ode to a Wounded Dove.' Listening to the recording on your web page I would swear that it is the same one that I made for her in that practice room of Valley College - the inflections and timing are the same." Information sourced from Bob Claster's website which has an archive of rare Judee Sill music. I don't believe that this song has been uploaded anywhere else. The version posted on Bob Claster's website fails to load completely and therefore couldn't be downloaded. I used a version sourced from a bootleg titled "Leftovers." Seems to be the same recording. There isn't much information about the bootleg itself. http://www.bobclaster.com/Judee/ https://rateyourmusic.com/release/unauth/judee-sill/leftovers/ Thanks for listening.

More about Judee Sill→Added
In 1965, Judee Sill was a Valley College student with a guitar and a vision. Her song "A Poor Tender Maiden's Lament Concerning the World's Situation At Present or Ode to a Wounded Dove" is a haunting anti-war lament that showcases her unique blend of Christian themes and folk influences. This rare footage, recently unearthed on Bob Claster's website, offers a glimpse into Sill's early days as a singer-songwriter.
The clip itself is a poignant reminder of the turmoil of the 1960s. The song's lyrics, with their references to a "wounded dove" and a "world in disarray," evoke a sense of desperation and disillusionment that was characteristic of the era. Sill's music, influenced by Bach and infused with Christian themes of rapture and redemption, adds a layer of complexity to her protest song.
What makes this clip so significant is its connection to Sill's early career as a singer-songwriter. According to Bill Boetticher, who transcribed the music for Sill in 1965-66, she used this very recording to win a songwriting contest at Valley College. The fact that Sill was able to craft such a powerful anti-war song at the age of 20 or so is a testament to her talent and conviction.
The clip's rarity is also noteworthy. As far as I can tell, this is the only publicly available version of "A Poor Tender Maiden's Lament Concerning the World's Situation At Present or Ode to a Wounded Dove." The fact that it's been sourced from a bootleg titled "Leftovers" adds an air of mystery and intrigue to its discovery. One can only imagine what other hidden gems might be lurking in the archives, waiting to be unearthed.
Watching this clip is like stepping into a time capsule. You're transported to a world of folk clubs, songwriting contests, and anti-war protests. Sill's music is a window into her soul, a reflection of her hopes, fears, and convictions. As you listen to the haunting melody and poignant lyrics, you can't help but be moved by the power and passion of this young singer-songwriter.
Sill's legacy as a folk icon has been growing in recent years, thanks in part to the efforts of Bob Claster, who has dedicated his website to archiving her rare music. This clip is just one example of the treasures that can be found on his site. For fans of Judee Sill and those interested in exploring the early days of folk music, this footage is a must-see.
As I watch "A Poor Tender Maiden's Lament Concerning the World's Situation At Present or Ode to a Wounded Dove," I'm struck by the sense of urgency and conviction that permeates Sill's music. It's a reminder that even in the darkest times, there are always voices speaking out against injustice and advocating for peace. This clip is a testament to the power of music to inspire and uplift us, even in the face of adversity.
