So Mean To Me - Little Milton - 1961
St.Louis became a area of talented musicians who fillled a pipeline of artists signed by Chicago's Chess Records from 1961 through 1964. In addition to Fontella Bass and Bobby McClure, Little Milton was a St.Louis based artist who recorded for Chess in the 1960's. Milton Campbell had been working with Oliver Sain and Ike Turner during the 1950's and had established himself on the blues circuit during that time. In order to broaden himself into the emerging soul scene, Campbell hooked up with Sain and the folks at Chess to release a series of blues/soul recordings during the 1960's before eventually moving down to Stax in Memphis during the 1970's. So Mean To Me, was a song Campbell and Sain wrote and was his first release in late 1961 on the Chess/Checker label. It peaked at #39 on the Cash Box chart, week ending 1/27/62.
