Lamont McLemore, founder of the 5th Dimension
Lamonte McLemore grew up in the poor side of town of St. Louis, MO. He loved playing baseball but his ticket out of the ghetto was the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge he didn't want to return to St. Louis so he found his way into a vocal group called the Hi-Fi's. From there he formed the Versatiles, and then he contacted two old friends from the neighborhood, Billy Davis, Jr. and Ron Townson. They came to California to join Lamonte. Lamonte had been singing with Marilyn McCoo and then he met Florence LaRue. They formed the Fifth Dimension and the group went up, up and away. Lamonte tells Tom how it all happened.
