READ OUR DISCLAIMER https://rockandrolltruestories.com/youtube-disclaimer/ In 2005, Blink-182 reached their peak—only to unravel in spectacular, dramatic fashion. This isn’t just another band breakup. As Tom DeLonge departed to chase his wild creative ambitions with Angels & Airwaves, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker were left in the ruins. Facing betrayal, heartbreak, and a fractured friendship, Mark and Travis turned their anger into something new: a darker, more electronic band called +44. This video unpacks the full history, drama, and creative reinvention that followed Blink-182’s split, focusing on the emotional diary that became +44’s one powerful album. After Blink’s meteoric rise—including platinum albums and sold-out tours—the cracks started to show behind the scenes. The relentless cycle of recording and touring wore down DeLonge, whose side project Box Car Racer had already stoked tension with Hoppus, leaving him feeling excluded from the band’s creative process. When DeLonge pushed for a break, hoping to experiment with new sounds and spend time with family, it triggered an irrevocable split, ending in the infamous “indefinite hiatus” announcement. For Mark and Travis, Blink-182 wasn’t just a band—it was their life, and losing Tom felt like the loss of a best friend. Instead of wallowing, they responded by starting +44—initially an electronic project that evolved into a full band, with live drums, guitars, and biting, honest lyrics. Collaborators came and went, but the core energy was Mark and Travis pushing through the loneliness and betrayal. The name +44 referenced the UK’s country code, symbolizing a “new connection” born in the wreckage. Their debut album, When Your Heart Stops Beating, dropped in late 2006, packed with raw emotion, synth-driven hooks, and not-so-subtle lyrical digs at DeLonge’s departure. Songs like “No, It Isn’t” and the title track turned the pain of heartbreak and divorce into angsty, honest pop-punk catharsis. While +44’s sound stood apart from Blink’s sunny skate-punk style—channeling influences like The Cure and The Postal Service—the band struggled with new obstacles. Promotion was harder, fame was no longer guaranteed, and injuries (like Travis Barker’s broken arm) made touring tough. Despite these setbacks, the album landed at number 10 on Billboard and drew a devoted following for its emotional honesty and darker sound. The journey wasn’t all smooth. Mark and Travis suffered through public scrutiny and personal challenges, including Travis’s very public divorce and, later, a traumatic plane crash in 2008. That crash reunited all three Blink members, bringing back old friendships and leading to the band’s 2009 Grammy reunion. +44 was never just a footnote—it became the musical therapy Mark and Travis needed. It turned grief into growth, gave fans a raw look at the aftermath of Blink’s collapse, and helped pave the way for the band’s future reunion. The project remains a testament to reinvention, honesty, and the messy, resilient power of music born in chaos. About R.E.M.

R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe, who were students at the University of Georgia. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
