About This Footage

Shihad's triumphant return to the stage at the Big Day Out in Sydney, 2006, is a testament to the resilience of New Zealand's rock scene. Captured in this rare live footage, "Home Again" is a scorching performance that showcases the band's ability to electrify even the most skeptical of crowds.

At the time of filming, Shihad was still reeling from their 2002 name change to Pacifier and subsequent backlash from fans who felt betrayed by the new moniker. But with the return to their original name in 2004, the band seemed revitalized, ready to reclaim their spot as one of New Zealand's most beloved rock outfits. The energy emanating from this performance is palpable - Tom Larkin's pounding drums, Phil Knight's searing guitar riffs, and Jon Toogood's soaring vocals all combine to create a sonic explosion that leaves the Sydney crowd breathless.

What makes this footage truly remarkable is its rarity. With only a handful of live performances from this era available online, "Home Again" at the Big Day Out offers a unique glimpse into Shihad's live show during this pivotal period in their career. The band's ability to adapt and evolve while maintaining their signature sound is on full display here - a testament to their dedication to their craft.

As we watch Toogood launch into the song's anthemic chorus, it's clear that Shihad has finally found their footing again. The crowd is entranced, singing along with every word as the band pours their heart and soul into the performance. This is more than just a live show - it's a celebration of music, community, and redemption.

Shihad's history is marked by periods of turmoil and transformation, but "Home Again" at the Big Day Out captures a moment of pure triumph. It's a reminder that even in the face of adversity, great bands can persevere and emerge stronger than ever. As we watch Toogood's sweat-drenched performance, it's impossible not to feel the energy coursing through his veins - an energy that's been passed down from the band's earliest days as a scrappy Wellington outfit.

The Big Day Out was always more than just a music festival - it was a cultural phenomenon that brought together some of Australia and New Zealand's most innovative and exciting acts. Shihad's performance here is a highlight reel of their best work, showcasing why they remain one of the most beloved rock bands to emerge from the Antipodes.

As we fast-forward through the years, it's easy to forget just how pivotal this moment was for Shihad. But watching "Home Again" at the Big Day Out reminds us that even in the darkest moments, music has the power to heal and transform. It's a testament to the enduring spirit of rock 'n' roll - a spirit that refuses to be extinguished, no matter what challenges come its way.

The final shot of this performance is of Toogood, grinning from ear to ear as he launches into the song's final chorus. The crowd is on their feet, singing along in perfect harmony as the band brings the house down with a blistering solo. It's a moment that will stay with you long after the credits roll - a reminder of the raw energy and unbridled passion that defines Shihad at their best.
