BOSS - THE BIG JOE TURNER STORY
BOSS: The Big Joe Turner Story is an independent documentary about Big Joe Turner—Kansas City “Boss of the Blues,” jump-blues shouter behind “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” a bridge from boogie-woogie & swing to rock ’n’ roll. From singing beside a bar as a teenage beer-hustler, to roaring over Pete Johnson’s piano, to topping the pop charts and inspiring early rockers, this film follows Turner’s entire arc: the clubs, the hits, the dry spells—and the legacy that still thunders through rock, R&B, and roots music. CONTENT NOTE Historical discussion includes segregation & Jim Crow, explicit/risqué lyric variants, and music-business exploitation. Presented for context and education.
