NEVER MISS A BEAT FACEBOOK: @RNRTrueStories TWITTER: @rocktruestories BLOG: www.rockandrolltruestories.com #mazzystar #hopesandoval #fadeintoyou #davidroback #daveroback What's going on my fellow rock-and-rollers. now it's one thing for a band to have a hit song it's another thing for a band to have a decade defining song. And California been Mazzy star song fade into you is one of the most defining songs of the 90s but it may surprise you to know that the slow dreamy song was almost never written by the group the song became an anthem for teenagers in the 90s with its lyrics about heartache and a memorable slide guitar but the band's guitarist and producer David Roback would tell an Australian publication in 2018 that it was never intended to be a nostalgic song unless you were meant to think about the nostalgia for the present because it really was about the present he would claim now despite the song being one of the more popular songs to come out of the 90s it wasn't a number one hit. It would peak in number three on the modern Rock charts and never even was a top 40 hit on the Hot 100 charts which combines all the popular music regardless of genre. Now despite that the song has still been heavily licensed by Hollywood appearing on more than 30 movies and television shows and Roback were called how quickly things came together with Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval claiming we used to walk on the beach a lot and walk around the city adding that he and sandoval wrote the music and lyrics together in one day saying it came almost at the same time we weren't trying to write a hit song we were just trying to write a song I think we had a melody in a feel and we just followed that feel and that became the song it was the acoustic guitar and both of us singing after we'd written the song then we arranged it for the other instruments the piano and slide guitar and drums but it started out as an acoustic song and Sandoval still remembers the day that duo wrote it claiming I thought it was such a beautiful song and we jammed on it for a while and then it eventually made the cut now fade in T would become the first single off the band's sophomore records so tonight that I might see which would go on to sell a million copies. It's been covered by numerous artists including an eclectic lineup spanning Ben Harper, Dinosaur Jr and Kelly Clarkson Roback were called how it wasn't other stars covering the song that wowed him the most he would claim I was in Venice Beach California and I saw this guy sitting on the street corner playing that song and that's the most excited that ever felt about the song he'd claim. Now following the success of the group sophomore record the band would release their third record in 1996 titled Among My Swan before disbanding in 1997 and reuniting several more times in the following years. While in 2013 the group released their final record Seasons of Your day and while many artists disliked their hit song they made them famous the members of Mazzy Star still seem to love the song as of 2018 with Roback claiming we never felt that way resentful it's just one of our songs we played because we want to play .Now sadly this year David Robach would pass away in February due to cancer at the young age of 61 so what memories do you guys have of Mazzy Star from the 90s and have you guys ever seen the band or purchased any of their records let me know in the comment section below and as always if you guys have suggestions for future stories let me know down below as well and don't forget that the like button and subscribe if you guys want to support my channel just simply watch another video or go check us out on patreon for as low as two dollars a month take care
