THE FLATT PAVIN, John Johnson (1550 - 1595)

Hi, Ihr Lieben, hier eine Komposition des englischen Hoflautenisten John Johnson, dessen Stücke in der Regel so schwierig waren, dass man vermutet, dass er sie nur für sich selbst niederschrieb. Insofern sind sie wohl eher der professionellen Szene vorbehalten, es sei denn, der "Dilletant" (ein in der Romantik sehr wohl positiv besetzter Begriff für nicht kommerzielle Musiker, die aber über einen professionellen Standard verfügen) verschreibt sich mit seiner ganzen Freizeit der Einstudierung. Vor dem Hintergrund kann man verstehen, dass Königin Elisabeth I. ihn bis zu seinem Lebensende im Jahre 1595 beschäftigte. Ebenfalls verständlich ist vor diesem Hintergrund, dass John Dowland als Hoflautenist zu John Johnsons Lebzeiten keine Chance hatte, weswegen er zunächst im dänischen Exil lebte, bevor er dann 1595 Johnsons Stelle übernahm und seine Blütezeit erlebte. So it is consequently understandable that almost all of his compositions are reserved to the professional instrumentalistic scene, unless the "dilletante" (a term out of the cultural period of the romantics for noncommercial musicians with a high level of instrumental- technical standard - this term is absolutekly positively connotated) takes all of his free time, to rehearse one of Johnsons pieces. So as well as consequent is the fact that Queen Elizabeth I. employed Johnson until the end of his life. This is why John Dowland didn't have a single chance, to become the royal lutenist at Buckingham Palace for Johnsons life time. So Dowland first went to the exile in Denmarc, before he took over Johnsons place. This time became Dowland's main period of prosperity then.
