Why Pornography Nearly Destroyed The Cure

The Cure

UPDATE: Unfortunately, the sample of the song "Pornography" in the video was removed by the copyright holders. In 1982, The Cure released their fourth album, Pornography — a bleak, uncompromising masterpiece that nearly destroyed the band. Fueled by drugs, paranoia, and exhaustion, the sessions produced some of the darkest music of the post-punk era. Critics dismissed it, fans were confused, and internal tensions exploded into fistfights onstage. Yet decades later, Pornography stands as one of The Cure’s most influential works — a haunting record that reshaped gothic rock and cemented Robert Smith’s place as one of music’s most visionary songwriters. In this video, we dive into the chaos behind the album’s creation, the infamous Brussels concert, and how The Cure rose from the ashes to become one of the greatest bands of all time. If you’re a fan of The Cure, post-punk, or music history, hit subscribe for more deep dives into outsider and iconic records.
