At 55, Barney Greenway Finally Admits What Happened to Him #barneygreenway #napalmdeath #rockdiscovery Barney Greenway is the quiet paradox of extreme metal — a humble man with no vices, yet a voice fierce enough to redefine an entire genre. Shaped by childhood bullying, working-class silence, and the early loss of his father, he turned pain into a scream that became both weapon and philosophy. Onstage he’s a storm; offstage he stays invisible, thoughtful, and gentle. Behind that roar lies tragedy and endurance. A strict vegan, endlessly disciplined, and carrying the grief of losing Jesse Pintado, Barney pushed through decades of brutal touring until illness finally caught him in 2024. His life proves that real power often comes from suffering — and that one honest voice can shake an era. From 1989 to 2004, Napalm Death were a five-piece band after they added Jesse Pintado and Mitch Harris as replacements for guitarist Bill Steer.
