The velvet underground's east coast cool meets west coast hip wasn't a marriage made in heaven....visiting san francsico for the first time andy warhol's 'the exploding plastic inevitable' was there to play two (or three?) night's at the fillmore (the end of the second night bill graham pulled the electricity) with the 'mothers' (zappa's group) and i believe when they left the airplane played the third night with the mothers? but they are not listed here on the poster (of course)....many of the san francisco hipsters turned out as warhol was a genuine artist of some repute and with reports of the fantastic show the group played but it was all a major disappointment with a dull light show that was built on the stage by danny williams showing warhol movies on the walls with lots of strobe lights and common stage light's...the show (and its music) was a bore for many with the music not dance oriented with many leaving early with the two onstage 'whip dancers' gerard malanga & mary woronov trying their best to bring at least some excitment to things...here chanteuse 'nico' with warhol & malanga hold a press conference to advertise the event but reporter carlton lordell was given a hard time! questions were asked but none answered! after the last night malanga with friend nancy worthington fish who was apart of the satirical group the 'committee' was arrested for a carrying an offensive weapon in a north beach cafeteria (his whip!!!) and thrown in jail for the night....more problems arose when local poet michael mcclure refused to sign a release form for warhol to film his controversial play 'the beard'...(warhol went a head anyway)...the film dropouts are not me its the original film elements...
