THE Kinks bassist Jim Rodford has died at the age of 76.The musician had a long career as the founding bassist of the band Argent as well as playing with The Kinks and The Zombies.His cousin and bandmate Rod Argent took to Facebook today to confirm Jim's sad passing, and the tragic circumstances that led to his death.He wrote on The Zombie's Facebook page: "It is with deep sadness that I learned this morning that my dear cousin and lifelong friend, Jim Rodford, died this morning after a fall on the stairs."More details are not yet known about the exact cause of death."Jim was not only a magnificent bass player, but also from the first inextricably bound to the story of The Zombies.An enormous enabler for us."To the end, Jim's life was dedicated to music.He was unfailingly committed to local music - an ever present member of the local scene in St.Albans, where he had spent his whole life." Jim enjoyed an incredible music career spanning six decades, having started out in Argent with Rod.He also toured the UK and Europe with The Mike Cotton Sound and the group worked alongside big names stars including Dusty Springfield.He then joined The Kinks in 1978 after John Dalton's permanent exit from the band, and remained with them until the band called it a day in 1996.The Kinks also paid tribute to Jim, writing on Twitter: "It is with deep sadness that we have learned that Jim Rodford passed away - he toured and recorded with the Kinks for many years and will be greatly missed.He was much loved by all of us." About Jim Rodford

James Walter Rodford (7 July 1941 – 20 January 2018) was an English musician, who played bass for several British rock bands. He was a founding member of Argent, which was led by his cousin Rod Argent, and performed with them from their formation in 1969 until they disbanded in 1976. He was the bassist for the Kinks from 1978 until they disbanded in 1997. In 2004, he joined the reunited Zombies, whom he had been closely associated with since the early 1960s, and remained a member until his death...
