Jock Tamson's Bairns - Beggars Mantle (B.W. Davies/W.E. McArthur/A.K. Sorensen)
1988 1231 We wrote this song as a Scottish response to Bill Staines' great song A Place In The Choir, which we also performed regularly. "We're a Jock Tamson's Bairns" is an affectionate way that Scots have of saying "under the skin, we're all the same". This is a rare combination of verses as the subsequent recordings and performances feature a different last verse. The last verse on this early version of the song was written by Alan Sorensen. Recorded at the Old Smiddy, Gretna Green, for the Border TV news magazine programme, "Look Around" on Hogmanay 1988.
About The La's
The La's were an English rock band from Liverpool, originally active from 1983 until 1992. Fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist Lee Mavers, the group are best known for their hit single "There She Goes" (1988).
