About This Footage

The recently unearthed footage of the Johnnie Bassett tribute show, "Bassett Tribute Show Monroe part 1", is a rare gem for blues enthusiasts. Captured in 2013, this 14-minute clip provides an intimate glimpse into the musical legacy of the late guitarist and singer-songwriter.

One of the most striking aspects of this footage is the caliber of musicians assembled to pay tribute to Bassett's work. Skeeto Valdez on drums, Pat Prouty on acoustic bass, George Bedard on guitar, and Chris Codish on piano – each a respected figure in their own right – come together to create a rich and nuanced sound. The selection of these artists is particularly noteworthy, as they not only demonstrate their technical proficiency but also convey the emotional depth required to do justice to Bassett's compositions.

The setting for this tribute show, held at the Monroe County Public Library on February 5th, 2013, adds an air of understated sophistication. The library's auditorium provides a modest yet fitting backdrop for the evening's proceedings, underscoring the importance of preserving and celebrating musical heritage. It is here that we find the artists in a more subdued environment than one might expect from a typical live performance, but this only serves to heighten the sense of reverence and respect for the music being played.

The tribute show itself is structured around an acoustic arrangement, with each musician bringing their unique perspective to the table. George Bedard's guitar work, in particular, shines as he navigates the intricate fingerpicking patterns that are a hallmark of Bassett's style. Meanwhile, Pat Prouty's acoustic bass provides a subtle yet essential foundation, underscoring the rhythmic nuances of the music.

The significance of this footage extends beyond its musical merits, however. As a rare example of live performance from 2013, it offers a fascinating snapshot of the blues scene at that time. The artists involved, while perhaps not household names, demonstrate a level of technical proficiency and emotional connection to the music that is all too often absent in more polished productions.

Furthermore, this clip serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of tribute shows in preserving musical heritage. By gathering together like-minded musicians to pay homage to a departed artist, these events not only honor their legacy but also provide a platform for new generations of musicians to discover and interpret their work.

In an era where digital recordings have made it easier than ever to access music from around the world, there is something undeniably special about witnessing live performances. The "Bassett Tribute Show Monroe part 1" clip offers a glimpse into this rarefied world, providing blues enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to experience the music of Johnnie Bassett in a way that feels both intimate and authentic.
