About This Footage

The dusty, rural roads of Wales hold a secret that has been hidden in plain sight for decades. Rockfield Studios, nestled deep within the Wye Valley, is more than just a residential recording studio – it's a time capsule of rock history. Founded by brothers Kingsley and Charles Ward in 1963, this unassuming farm-turned-studio has played host to some of the most iconic bands of all time.

The list of legendary acts that have graced Rockfield's hallowed halls is staggering: Black Sabbath, Queen, Robert Plant, Iggy Pop, Simple Minds, Oasis, The Stone Roses, and Coldplay are just a few of the many who have made music on this very farm. And yet, despite its storied past, Rockfield remains relatively unknown to the general public – until now.

The 47-minute Q&A session, "Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm | TV Q&A," is a rare gem that offers a glimpse into the inner workings of this enigmatic studio. Director Hannah Berryman, producers Catryn Ramasut and John Leckie, and Editor Rupert Houseman sit down to discuss their documentary about Rockfield, shedding light on its fascinating history and significance.

One of the most striking aspects of Rockfield is its unique setting. Perched on a farm in rural Wales, it's hard to imagine that this tranquil landscape has been the backdrop for some of rock music's most pivotal moments. And yet, as Berryman and her team reveal, the studio's bucolic surroundings proved to be the perfect catalyst for creativity.

The documentary's focus on Rockfield's history is a welcome respite from the usual biopic fare that dominates music documentaries. By centering on the studio itself rather than individual artists, "Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm | TV Q&A" offers a fresh perspective on rock music's most formative era. The conversations with the documentary team are engaging and insightful, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the making of their film.

What makes this clip truly remarkable is its rarity. With so much focus on individual artists and their personal struggles, it's refreshing to see a project that celebrates the often-overlooked infrastructure of rock music – namely, the studios themselves. Rockfield's story serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and creative community, highlighting the importance of these behind-the-scenes hubs in shaping musical history.

Watching "Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm | TV Q&A" is akin to stepping into a time machine, transporting viewers back to an era when rock music was still evolving. As Berryman and her team share anecdotes and insights from their documentary, it becomes clear that Rockfield's legacy extends far beyond its impressive list of clients.

The studio's influence can be seen in the music itself – the distinct soundscapes created by artists who passed through its doors are unmistakable. From Queen's operatic grandeur to Oasis's Britpop anthems, Rockfield's unique sonic DNA is woven throughout these iconic recordings.

In conclusion, "Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm | TV Q&A" is a must-watch for anyone interested in rock music's rich history. By shedding light on this enigmatic studio and its storied past, Berryman and her team have given us a rare gift – a glimpse into the secret world of Rockfield Studios.
