Mary Martin Sings "The Sweetest Sight" Rare recording 1962 (Hammerstein and Kern)
"The Sweetest Sight" music by Jerome Kern, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, 2nd. I believe the song was written for Hammerstein's wife, Dorothy. This is a tribute in honor of Mary Martin's birthday (12/1/1913) She only recorded this lovely song once, in 1962, for the record label Guideposts for Living produced by Norman Vincent Peale. This is a rare recording. She did sing it sometimes on television in the 1980s. This was a favorite song of Mary Martin and you can hear it in the way she sings it. There was talk of a recording in the 1940s of this song (it was written in 1939), but the recording never materialized. Please enjoy this beautiful song by a legendary artist.
