George Jones Stayed Sober in His Final Years, but It Was Too Late

George Jones, one of the finest country music singers of all time, is well known to both fans and casual country music listeners, first for his music and then for his battle with drugs and alcohol. Despite his struggles, he managed to come out of the tunnel of his afflictions, but before that, in early 1982, George Jones got into serious conflict with the law for the first time when he was arrested in Mississippi on charges of DUI and cocaine possession. Then, on March 29, 1982, George Jones was driving home to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, when he crashed his car. He was taken to a hospital in Birmingham, where he received treatment for alcoholism and drug abuse.
