About Big John Wrencher
American blues harmonica player and singer, born February 12, 1923 in Sunflower, Mississippi, died July 15, 1977 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Having lost his left arm in an auto accident c. 1958, he was also known as One Arm John. He settles in Chicago in 1962 and was well known for playing on the Maxwell Street market there into the 1970s. He recorded for Testament in the mid-1960s (also backing Robert Nighthawk, and Johnny Young), and made an LP for Barrelhouse in 1969. In the 1970s he frequently toured Europe, recording for Big Bear in 1974.
