White Ridge - Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
Recorded at the Crown Farringdon 26th Sep 26. White Ridge are an Oxfordshire-based rock covers band built around a group of experienced musicians with a shared love of classic rock and live performance. The current line-up features Richie Addison on lead vocals, Martin Reid on bass and vocals, Tony Wells on drums, Andy Burton on guitar and vocals, and David Reynolds on lead guitar. Between them they bring decades of experience from live bands, studio work and a wide variety of musical projects. Their influences stretch across the classic rock spectrum, with names such as The Beatles, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Bad Company, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin-era rock helping shape the band's sound. Rather than relying entirely on the most obvious standards, White Ridge also like to include some less predictable choices in their set. At heart, White Ridge are a live band. Their own description sums it up simply: “Playing live is our passion.” They regularly perform around Oxfordshire at pubs, festivals and local live-music events, delivering a set rooted in the great rock music of the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. Take Me Out – Franz Ferdinand | White Ridge Inspired Cover A White Ridge inspired cover of “Take Me Out,” the explosive indie-rock anthem that launched Scottish band Franz Ferdinand onto the international stage. Released in 2004, “Take Me Out” was the second single from Franz Ferdinand’s self-titled debut album. Written by the band, the song became their breakthrough hit and remains one of the most recognisable guitar tracks of the 2000s. Franz Ferdinand formed in Glasgow, with the classic early line-up featuring Alex Kapranos on vocals and guitar, Nick McCarthy on guitar and keyboards, Bob Hardy on bass and Paul Thomson on drums. One of the most distinctive things about “Take Me Out” is its unusual arrangement. The track begins at a fast pace before dramatically slowing down and changing groove, transforming into the stomping guitar riff that drives the rest of the song. Rather than hiding that change, Franz Ferdinand made it the centrepiece of the recording — and it became one of the song's most memorable features. Alex Kapranos has explained that the lyrics play with the idea of two people attracted to each other but afraid to make the first move. The title also carries a deliberate double meaning, combining the idea of asking someone out romantically with the phrase “take me out” in the sense of eliminating a target. The song's stylish video, influenced by early 20th-century art and animation, also became a major part of its success during the height of the music-video era. “Take Me Out” reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, while the band's debut album won the 2004 Mercury Music Prize. The track became part of the huge resurgence of guitar-based indie rock during the early 2000s and helped establish Franz Ferdinand as one of the leading British bands of the period. More than twenty years later, that stop-start opening and enormous guitar riff can still fill a dance floor within seconds. This White Ridge inspired cover pays tribute to the infectious riff, unusual arrangement and irresistible energy of this Franz Ferdinand classic.
