Porter Wagoner with Ralph Stanley : Long Journey Home
It is a sad irony that Porter Wagoner ended his set at Ralph Stanley's Hills of Home Festival with "Long Journey Home" - he passed away within five months. Porter performed this song with a gusto which disguised his own frail health, even throwing in a trademark cornball story about Bashful Cousin Oswald. Backed up by Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, Porter sounds as great as ever in what was one of his last performances. Hills of Home Festival near Coeburn VA, May 2007.
About Ralph Stanley
Ralph Edmund Stanley was an American bluegrass artist, known for his distinctive singing and banjo playing. He began playing music in 1946, originally with his older brother Carter Stanley as part of the Stanley Brothers, and most often as the leader of his band, the Clinch Mountain Boys. He was also known as Dr. Ralph Stanley.
