Mike Bloomfield Visits Nick Gravenites
Though we thought this clip originally came from the spring of 1974, Toby Byron says it is from 1970-71 (see below). Whatever the date, singer, guitarist and composer, Nick Gravenites was an integral part of Bloomfield's Electric Flag and a long-time Chicago friend and musical partner. Nick had been involved with John Cippolina, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother and the Holding Company and the all-gal band Ace of Cups following the Flag's demise. What we see here is a video clip of a film made at Nick's house sometime in 1970-71. Mike arrives, greets Nick and Big Brother member Dave Getz, and shows them some records he's brought along. This brief but endearing clip comes from RhineStonerman here on YT; we've modified it with some music and a bit of commentary from Nick himself. About Mike Bloomfield
Born on July 28, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Died on February 15, 1981 in San Francisco, California, by drug overdose. Already at a young age Bloomfield knew and played with many of Chicago's blues legends, even before he achieved his own fame, He was one of the primary influences on the mid-to-late 1960s revival of classic Chicago and other styles of blues music.
