Mike Bloomfield Visits Nick Gravenites
Though we thought this clip originally came from the spring of 1974, Toby Byron says it is from 1970-71 (see below). Whatever the date, singer, guitarist and composer, Nick Gravenites was an integral part of Bloomfield's Electric Flag and a long-time Chicago friend and musical partner. Nick had been involved with John Cippolina, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother and the Holding Company and the all-gal band Ace of Cups following the Flag's demise. What we see here is a video clip of a film made at Nick's house sometime in 1970-71. Mike arrives, greets Nick and Big Brother member Dave Getz, and shows them some records he's brought along. This brief but endearing clip comes from RhineStonerman here on YT; we've modified it with some music and a bit of commentary from Nick himself. Born on July 28, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Died on February 15, 1981 in San Francisco, California, by drug overdose.
