ABOUT Passions, an American soap opera, originally aired on NBC from July 5, 1999, to September 7, 2007. It continued on DirecTV's The 101 Network from September 17, 2007, to August 7, 2008. Created by screenwriter James E. Reilly and produced by NBC Studios, Passions delves into the lives, loves, and extraordinary romantic and paranormal escapades of the inhabitants of Harmony. The show revolves around the interconnected relationships within its diverse core families: the Russells (African American), the Cranes and Bennetts (Caucasian), and the Lopez-Fitzgeralds (half-Mexican, half-Irish). Supernatural elements take center stage, primarily featuring the town witch Tabitha Lenox (Juliet Mills) and her enchanted doll, Timmy (Josh Ryan Evans). After NBC canceled Passions in January 2007, DirecTV took over the series. The final episode aired on NBC on September 7, 2007, and new episodes resumed on DirecTV's 101 Network on September 17. However, in December 2007, DirecTV decided not to renew its contract for Passions, and attempts to sell the series elsewhere were unsuccessful. The show concluded in August 2008. As of 2019, Passions remains the most recent soap opera created for American network television's daytime programming.
