The second track from my new album The Empathist (coming out March 14th). This song was inspired by a conversation with Cree musician Adrian Sutherland. We were backstage waiting for soundcheck, eating chips and sipping bottled water, when he mentioned that drinking tap water was a novelty for him growing up in Attawapiskat. That comment stayed with me. It felt deeply ironic that Canada is frequently ranked among the top 10 'most desirable places to live' while many Indigenous communities live under boil-water advisories and the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women continues to grow. It felt like a story worth telling in a song. Stephen John Ging Fearing is a Canadian roots/folk singer-songwriter. In addition to his solo career, Fearing co-founded Canadian roots-rock supergroup Blackie and the Rodeo Kings with Colin Linden and Tom Wilson. He is one half of the duo Fearing & White, with Irish artist Andy White.
