Tristan Honsinger (cello, compositions), Steve Lunardi (violin), Paolo Botti (viola), Antonio Borghini (double bass), Cristiano Calcagnile (drums, percussion) Mestre (Venice), Auditorium Centro Candiani, 6th December 2005 Excerpt from the "Map of Moods" suite Video by Virgilio Biscaro, editing by Paolo Botti, © 2005-2023 Caligola Music On August 5, 2023, the American cellist Tristan Honsinger died, at just 73 years old. He was very active in the free jazz scene, best known for his collaborations with Cecil Taylor and Derek Bailey. Finding in his archive, Caligola discovered a precious video recording of a performance held on 6th December 2005 in Mestre, in which the entire suite "Map of Moods" (also a historic album from 1996) was performed by an unusual quintet led by Honsinger himself and completed by four very talented young Italian musicians. This is also a significant event in the history of Caligola: it was the first of many concerts proposed in these now almost twenty years at the auditorium Candiani. The few lucky spectators will still remember the emotions of that special evening. We like to share this short but intense video with all jazz fans, and dedicate it to a master like Tristan Honsinger, who gave so much to our music.
