Nine Inch Nails - 10 Miles High ('Hello, Everything Is Not OK' Mix)
when reznor released 'the fragile' instrumentals and 'deviations 1', i figured i'd make my own *ultimate* fragile - pulling bits from here and there to make an alternative fragile that is still pretty close to the original(1). like having 'somewhat damaged' ending with the acid bass, adding the cassette version of '+appendage' to its high-def instrumental release, and adding the cool alternative guitars back into 'the big come down'(2). this track was the biggest change though: it mainly merges the first half of the orginal track to its 'hello, everything is not ok' instrumental, but adds vocals back into the instrumental part (plus a few samples from elsewhere). this track bleeds into 'the perfect drug' on my version of the album, which felt right... now, before anyone questions it: no, i'm not a fan of how i merged the start into the tail of the last track. no, i'm not sure I'm happy with how many drum loops there are before the second half. yes, i plan on fixing it. i mixed the whole 'album' in audacity because i wanted to keep this out of a daw that might colour it; i wanted a pure sample-like editing approach. in retrospect, that decision was twaddle. oh, and no, i don't plan on releasing the whole thing. this track will stay as a youtube video only, and no other track will be released. *i made the album mix for me.* i've only put this video together because i felt it was significantly different enough (and decent enough) - but the rest of it is minor changes that, sure, others would enjoy...but they're far too close to the originals. (1: wellllll, i corrected something too. i'm sorry mr t rizzle, but why the holy bugger did the instrumental and deviations releases have those god awful beatbox versions of 'ripe (with decay)'? and why did the definitive version not have '(with decay)'?! so i mixed the first half of the definitive version with the second half of the deviations version so i had an honest to god high-def version of the proper, beautiful, and beatbox-less 'ripe (with decay)'. because i refuse to sully my ears with any other version.) (2: damn man, i *love* the guitars in the outro breakdown for the instrumental version of 'the big come down'. reminds me of aaron north. you know, i was right in front of him for one gig - and it felt like he played the gig backwards. he came out, wild as heck, whacking his guitar about...and slowly got more sane and composed as the gig drew to a close. at the end, he just laid the guitar down gently, waved, and walked off. he may have been an ass to deal with - i dunno - but he certainly brought *energy* to parts...like charlie's 'sin' intro on the theremin...)
