Frank Ocean - Nikes (Normal Vocals) [ORIGINAL PITCH]
This is a fan edit of the song "Nikes" off of Frank Ocean's album "Blonde." The first half of the original song features a formant-shifted version of Frank's voice, which is comparable to a child's voice. This decision gives the track an instinctual sense of innocence. However, it sounds a little harsh and disorienting for such an emotional performance, at least to me. There have been many attempts by fans to alter these vocals to sound "normal," mostly consisting of lowering the pitch. Nobody has been successful in changing the formant of these vocals without changing the song or using a different source (such as the Tumblr rehearsal clip) though. I decided to try changing the formant back to Frank's original recording, however this brought some audio glitches that took me away from the song. Instead, I ran the processed vocals through a voice algorithm based on Frank's voice on the album specifically. I did some more editing for the rougher parts, like splicing converted vocals from the rehearsal clip, and using some of the formant un-shifted vocals I tried initially. Then I mixed the vocals to sound as close as I could to the later portion of the song, where Frank's vocals are unaltered. I'm really pleased with the result, but let me know what you think! Should Frank have released this version instead? Is it weird to not hear the edited vocals? #frankocean #blonde
