'' the sons of adam '' - mr.your a better man 1966.

i'm continuing with my look at the bands 2nd/3rd or 4th billed on posters that many people have wondered 'what did they sound like?' the sons of adam were one of the better groups from los angeles in the mid-sixties due to the their sheer musicianship in the live arena and in guitarist randy holden a man on a mission finding new guitar sounds....they were : randy holden/michael stuart/mike port & joe (jack Ttanna) kookan...before stuart joined the line-up they were 'the fender iv' a surf style band with fabulous lead guitar (check out mar gaya from 1964..) but with the brit invasion under full swing they decided to change direction and recruited a new drummer in stuart....through connections with local 'legend' kim fowley they got a deal with 'decca records' and a name change...they released 3 brilliant single's in total 'take my hand/tomorrows gonna be another day' decca '65... mr.your a better man/saturdays son decca '66. feathered fish/baby show the world alamo '66. important in that they after splitting went on to many different well known outfits....here on their 2nd release they do a brilliant job on the 'yardbirds' tune with a guitar solo that few on the scene could replicate....a later line-up recorded a rare arthur lee tune 'feathered fish' not covered by lee's group 'love' which would have been a perfect fit on that bands debut album...without a doubt the best version i've heard later covered by 'the otherhalf'....spent as much time in san francisco as in los angeles playing all the cities ballrooms and extremely popular over in the east bay area...by june '67 they folded with holden going on to 'the otherhalf' then 'blue cheer'....stuart joined 'love' in time for their albums 'da capo & forever changes'...for visual evidence check out the film clip from the 1966 film 'the slender thread' with anne bancroft (mrs mel brooks..)....they appear in a club scene which i have in my archives....
