The band name comes from a Portuguese translation of Motörhead's song "Dancing on Your Grave", which is "Dançando na sua Sepultura". Sepultura means "grave" (sepulchre) in Portuguese (and in some other Latin-based languages). Originally, they wanted to call the band Tropa de Choque (Shock Troops), but found that the name had been used before. The first Sepultura show was in Bariloche, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on December 4th, 1984. The songs played were "Filhos de Hitler" (never recorded in the studio), "Warriors of Death" (then known as "Cavaleiros da morte"), and "Antichrist" (then known as "Anticristo"). Line-up of the first show: Wagner "Antichrist" - Vocals Max "Possessed" - Guitars Igor "Skullcrusher" - Drums Sepultura played the Donington Monsters of Rock Festival in England in 1996 as a three-piece with Andreas Kisser on lead vocals after Max Cavalera learned about the death of his stepson Dana Wells. It was from here that tensions began to escalate between Max and the remaining members of the band, who had been trying to get rid of his wife (and Dana Wells' mother) Gloria Cavalera as their manager. Max officially left Sepultura in January 1997 after the rest of the band had decided not to renew their management contract with Gloria. He went on to form Soulfly. Derrick Green, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, relocated to Brazil to replace Max as a vocalist. Sepultura has largely played as a single guitar band since then, though Green has occasionally played rhythm onstage. Roy Mayorga filled in for Igor Cavalera during the European tour with In Flames in 2006. Igor quit Sepultura permanently later the same year. The Cavalera brothers then reunited in the Cavalera Conspiracy project. On December 8, 2023, the band announced an 18-month farewell world tour. The tour was later extended into two-and-a-half years, with the final show set to take place in their hometown of São Paulo on November 7th, 2026. A VHS tape called Live Reviews was released by Roadrunner in 1992/93.
R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe, who were students at the University of Georgia. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
