Studio Outtakes from Glenn Gould's 1955 Goldberg Recording Session
[(From Wikipedia): "The recordings were made in 1955 at Columbia Record's 30th Street studio in Manhattan over four days between June 10 and June 16 and took about 32 hours. He recorded no fewer than 21 versions of the introductory aria before being satisfied."] The finished product, released in 1956 as a mono mid-fidelity LP, including the roughly 2 seconds separating each track, was 38'26'' long. "Who the heck tuned this piano... . ..that G is gone too, now". Gould has Perfect Pitch (also known as Absolute Pitch). Recent studies have shown that Perfect Pitch can be acquired, but only at a very early age. Gould likes to say that he could read _Music_ before he could read Words, and so it's not clear his Perfect Pitch was by Nature or by Nurture.
