About This Footage

This grainy, 4:10 clip of A's "Wind It" is a rare gem from the early days of British alternative rock. Filmed in the mid-to-late 1990s, it captures the band's frenetic energy and raw talent during a period when they were still finding their footing.

At the time this footage was recorded, A had just released their debut album How Ace Are Buildings to moderate success. The album's mix of grunge-inspired riffs and catchy hooks resonated with fans, but the band was still struggling to break into the mainstream. This clip offers a glimpse into their live performances during this period, showcasing their ability to craft infectious, high-energy songs that could get crowds moving.

What makes "Wind It" so notable is its rarity. With only four studio and two live albums under their belt, A's discography pales in comparison to some of their more successful peers. However, the band's music has always been characterized by a sense of urgency and spontaneity, qualities that are on full display in this clip.

The footage itself is rough around the edges, with a lo-fi quality that adds to its charm. The camera work is haphazard, capturing the band from multiple angles as they tear through "Wind It" with reckless abandon. A's lead singer is a whirlwind of energy, leaping across the stage and pounding away at his guitar as if trying to conjure up some sort of sonic magic.

Despite their eventual chart success – including a UK top 10 single and a top 20 album – A has always been something of an underdog. This clip serves as a reminder that even in the midst of relative obscurity, there was always a sense of potential lurking beneath the surface. It's a testament to the band's dedication to their craft and their refusal to compromise on their artistic vision.

Watching "Wind It" is like stepping back into a time capsule, transporting viewers to a bygone era when alternative rock was still in its formative stages. The clip's raw energy and unbridled enthusiasm are infectious, making it impossible not to get caught up in the band's excitement. As A continues to release new music and tour to this day, "Wind It" serves as a reminder of their enduring legacy – one that is built on a foundation of grit, determination, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of what alternative rock can be.

A's music has always been about more than just catchy hooks or guitar riffs; it's about capturing the essence of a particular moment in time. "Wind It" is no exception, offering a snapshot of a band on the cusp of something big. As such, it's a must-see for fans of alternative rock and anyone interested in exploring the lesser-known corners of British music history.
