This song is from a period in the bands evolution when Charlie and Paul decided to take a break from the music business. Sometime in early 1975 Charlie got fed up with the direction the business was going and decided to go fishing to clear his head. He packed everything up and moved to the great northwest. Paul soon followed and due to previous contractual obligations, the band continued on to fulfill those commitments. Since the rest of us didn't really sing a lot of lead on any of the songs, it was decided to call in an old friend, Mike McFadden, to be the new singer. Mike was a member of Goose Creek in the very early days while we were recording the first album. He wrote the song "No News Is Good News" from the album. Well, it didn't take long to see that we really couldn't do the majority of our usual Goose Creek songs so I sang the ones that I could and we incorporated a lot of Mike McFaddens' original material into the set. We essentially became a different band. One that I dubbed "Disco Goose '75". For the first month that we were out on the road we would experience an unusual phenomenon. At every show people would yell from the audience, "WHERE'S CHARLIE?" and we'd tell them, "HE'S GONE FISHING!". It didn't take long before Mike got the idea to write a song about this so that is where this one came from. I have to admit, it's the one new song from that period that is completely fitting with the spirit of The Goose Creek Symphony even though Charlie and Paul were not involved. They were definitely there in spirit! So here it is. Enjoy! This is a live recording and the only one I have so the top of the tune is clipped off. Sorry about that. Willard
