"No Help" Official Music Video. Our First Quarter Final Project: Shoot a 2-3 min. Music Video using HD Video to focus on visual storytelling. For this, I reached out to an old band mate of mine, Brad King. After I moved out of the Seattle area on Navy Orders, he started Herb & Jellyfish and was happy to help me out with my video. After listening to their new EP, I selected this song for the energy it brings. Brad told me the story behind this song of how he got way in over his head by falling in with the wrong people, which is the story this video is based off of. Like any story out there, I had to dramatize and exaggerate certain aspects in order for the theme to carry through, but overall I think I hit my mark on this. I had a really great time filming this and I learned a tremendous amount through the production process and by our instructor feedback. Big picture lessons learned through this process: 1. Be very careful with your white balance moving indoors/outdoors. 2. Exposure can be tricky, a light meter will always be very useful. 3. Clean your lenses! All the time, especially when shooting HD! 4. The layout of your shot list and ease to read/follow/understand will greatly influence the outcome of your production. 5. Be careful not to use multiple types of cameras. I used 3 different cameras in this production and even though they all look good, there are apparent differences that can make your shots inconsistent. 6. Shot design efficiency can really help story pacing. All of my shots accomplished only one thing in my story. I could have combined plot points in the same shots using blocking and camera movements to move the story line along faster and more efficiently (especially in the beginning). There were many more details I learned from this project, but these were the main ones and I am still very happy with how our video came out. About R.E.M.

R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe, who were students at the University of Georgia. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
