Half Moon Journey
An original Dan Fogelberg tribute, for Jean and for all the DanFans on YT, especially beggarsgame. It seems impossible that it's nearly a year. Playing on the back porch on a moonlit June night, this song quietly wandered onto the page. The first verse was just completed as a sudden wind came from nowhere, blowing out the candles on the table before me. (And yes, the title is itself an homage to "Full Moon Mansion".) Half Moon Journey Just a sliver off a half moon Just a moment off your life Like a song that's ending too soon As it slips into the night Like the breath that snuffs the candle And the tide's retreating surf Clouds that crowd upon the water Hold a stillness on the earth Showing your how to go Saying it's time To begin the final journey That completes the ancient rhyme Just a shadow cast from starlight Just a glimpse beyond your past Like a Phoenix caught in mid-flight As she rises from the ash Like a song that's never ending Whispered softly as a prayer Spirits move to greet the morning From the darkness without fear Showing you how to go Leading you there To a place that is forever Always here and everywhere Words, music & non-Dan photos by Paula Brud-Brown 2008
