About This Footage

The raw energy of a live performance can be a powerful thing, and this clip of Stone Temple Pilots performing "Plush" on the 1993 MTV Movie Awards is no exception. What makes it truly remarkable, however, is that it captures Scott Weiland at the height of his powers, just as STP was bursting onto the scene with their debut album _Core_.

This performance, which clocks in at a blistering 5:06, is a masterclass in atmospheric rock. The band's sound is still finding its footing, but Weiland's distinctive vocals and lyrics are already beginning to take shape. "Plush" is one of the standout tracks from their debut album, and this live rendition showcases the song's brooding intensity.

At the time of this performance, STP was still an up-and-coming band, but they were already making waves in the music scene with their unique blend of grunge and psychedelia. Weiland's vocal style, which blended the raw emotion of Eddie Vedder with the swagger of Chris Cornell, was particularly noteworthy. His ability to convey a sense of vulnerability and intensity through his lyrics was a key part of STP's appeal.

What makes this clip rare is that it provides a glimpse into STP's early live performances, when they were still finding their footing as a band. The 1993 MTV Movie Awards was a major platform for the band to showcase their talents, and "Plush" was one of the standout tracks from their setlist.

Watching this performance, it's clear that Weiland was already a commanding presence on stage. His vocals are raw and emotive, pouring heartache and desperation into every line. The rest of the band is equally impressive, with Dean DeLeo's guitar work adding a layer of depth to the song's atmospheric soundscapes.

One of the most striking things about this performance is how well it captures the mood of the early 90s music scene. STP was part of a new wave of bands that were pushing the boundaries of rock music, experimenting with new sounds and styles. This clip provides a fascinating glimpse into that era, when grunge and alternative rock were still in their infancy.

For fans of STP, this performance is a must-watch. It's a rare opportunity to see Weiland at his best, delivering a raw and emotional performance of one of the band's standout tracks. Even for those who aren't familiar with the band, "Plush" is a hauntingly beautiful song that showcases Weiland's unique vocal style.

As the clip fades to black, it's impossible not to feel a sense of nostalgia for the early 90s music scene. STP may have been just one of many bands vying for attention during this era, but they left an indelible mark on rock music. This performance is a testament to their enduring legacy, and a reminder that even in death, Weiland's music continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world.

The final image of Scott Weiland standing alone on stage, his voice soaring through the silence, is one that lingers long after the clip has ended. It's a powerful reminder of the impact he had on rock music, and the enduring legacy of Stone Temple Pilots' unique sound.
