It was lost for years cos it never got digitized for the youtube era for some reason. Director Steven Oritt was kind enough to find it and send it to us. I got buried alive for this video literally. I keep getting murdered. It’s a metaphor for something."

About This Footage

Pete Yorn's "June" is a rare gem, a music video from 2001 that has been lost in the digital ether until now. This clip matters because it offers a glimpse into the early days of an artist who would go on to make a significant impact on the music landscape.

In 2001, Pete Yorn was an emerging talent, fresh off the success of his debut album "Musicforthemorningafter". The album's critical and commercial acclaim had propelled him onto the radar of fans and critics alike. At this point in his career, Yorn was still finding his footing as a singer-songwriter, but he was already making waves with his introspective and emotionally charged songwriting.

The significance of "June" lies not only in its rarity but also in its context within Yorn's discography. As one of the first music videos from his debut album, it provides insight into the creative process behind the record. Directed by Steven Oritt, the video is a poignant representation of Yorn's songwriting style and themes.

What makes "June" truly remarkable is that it was lost for years, only to be rediscovered and shared with the world through YouTube. According to Yorn himself, the video was never digitized for the digital era, leaving it in a state of limbo until its recent resurrection. This circumstance adds an air of mystery to the clip, making it all the more fascinating to watch.

As you watch "June", you'll be struck by the simplicity and intimacy of the video. The black-and-white aesthetic, combined with Yorn's haunting vocals and acoustic guitar work, creates a sense of vulnerability that draws the viewer in. The lyrics, too, are worth paying attention to – they're a metaphor for being overwhelmed and lost, themes that would become a hallmark of Yorn's songwriting style.

Spin magazine recognized Yorn as one of his generation's best songwriters in 2021, and it's easy to see why. His ability to craft songs that are both deeply personal and universally relatable has made him a beloved figure in the music world. "June" is a testament to this talent, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind some of Yorn's most enduring work.

As you watch "June", you'll be struck by the sense of nostalgia that pervades the video. It's a reminder of an era when music was still being discovered through physical albums and CDs, rather than streaming services. The video's raw, DIY aesthetic is a refreshing respite from the polished production values that dominate modern music videos.

Ultimately, "June" is a rare treat for fans of Pete Yorn and anyone interested in the early days of his career. It offers a glimpse into the creative process behind one of his most critically acclaimed albums and provides insight into the themes and songwriting style that would become hallmarks of his work. As you watch this lost video, you'll be reminded of the power of music to capture the human experience – in all its beauty and complexity.
