It was first released on the 1963 album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan based Don't Think Twice, It's All Right on an old tune called Who's Gonna Buy Your Chickens When I'm Gone. It was the folksinger Paul Clayton - who had used the melody in his song Who's Gonna Buy Your Ribbon Saw - that taught Dylan the melody. The lyrics is about Dylans girlfriend of the time, Suze Rotolo, who was away in Italy.
