Shed Seven's "The Eye In The Sky" is a rare gem from the Let It Ride album sessions, unearthed in 1999 and included on the 2CD special edition of their Going for Gold - Greatest Hits compilation. This snippet, clocking in at just under four minutes, offers a glimpse into the band's creative process during this pivotal period.

In 1999, Shed Seven was riding high on the success of their third studio album, Let It Ride, which had been released to critical acclaim earlier that year. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Disco Nation" and "Getting Better", cementing the band's status as one of the leading alternative rock acts in the UK. However, this rare track, "The Eye In The Sky", was deemed unsuitable for inclusion on the standard edition of Let It Ride, only making it onto the 2CD special edition compilation.

What makes this footage so significant is that it provides a unique insight into Shed Seven's songwriting process and creative decisions during this period. By including this track on the Going for Gold - Greatest Hits compilation, the band was essentially giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at their artistic vision. It's a testament to their willingness to experiment and push boundaries, even if it meant not conforming to traditional album tracklisting expectations.

The fact that "The Eye In The Sky" is an unused track from the Let It Ride sessions makes it all the more intriguing. What was the reasoning behind its exclusion? Was it deemed too experimental or avant-garde for the standard edition of the album? Shed Seven's willingness to share this rare track with fans suggests a desire to engage and connect with their audience on a deeper level.

Watching "The Eye In The Sky" is like stepping into a time capsule, transporting viewers back to 1999 when alternative rock was at its peak. The band's energy and chemistry are palpable, even in this brief clip. Rick Witter's distinctive vocals soar above the instrumentation, while Joe Johnson's guitar work adds an extra layer of depth to the track.
