【Music Legends You Should Know】Andrew Hill, a truly original and singular voice in jazz piano and composition. Born in Chicago in 1931, he moved to New York in 1961 and soon began recording a remarkable series of mold-breaking albums for Blue Note Records — including my personal favorite, Point of Departure. Musicians were blown away by his total originality, but his music never fully caught on with the jazz mainstream. Unwilling to tour as a sideman and unable to secure enough engagements under his own name, Hill turned to teaching, spending several years at Portland State University in Oregon. Even so, he never stopped pushing forward creatively, continuing to record bold, adventurous music right up until his death in 2007. Howard Levy (born July 31, 1951) is an American musician. A keyboardist and virtuoso harmonica player, he "has been realistically presented as one of the most important and radical harmonica innovators of the twentieth century."
