'' the true brethren '' - seven circles film 1970.

~ This will be the last part of my hamilton(hamid)camp trilogy and we finish with an almost unknown part of his musical journey...whilst in san francisco's satirical comedy group 'the committee' '69 camp who had undergone a name change to 'hamid' hamilton camp when he joined the spiritual community of subud (mcguinn of the byrds) had joined in '65 he formed a new musical group called 'the true brethren' with : waqidi(william faliks)falicoff/loren pickford/camp & raphael grinage....playing jazzy/folky/psych influenced music with no percussion....they appeared in the bay area but southern california was where they mainly gigged at places like 'the golden bear/the coach house/the four muses/the troubadour etc etc...guitarist waqidi had a fasinating life and played with another san francisco folk artist penny nicholl....this song 'seven circles' first appeared on camp's '67 album 'here's to you' backed by session players it doesn't match (in my opinion) the superior take here played live....the performance was filmed in virginia (skymond) august '70 by director david goldhor (the venue was a part of the subud community)..all the while camp was putting together music for a stage show for paul sills 'story theatre' which when transfered to broadway won 2 tony awards!...i also have in my posession four tracks taken from a radio show '69 which shows off the 'true brethren' in fine form on folky/jazzy material written by camp....when the brethren began to unravell circa 1970 waqidi and his wife sherry snow (yes from blackburn & snow) later halimah began to travel the world and in indonesia appeared singing on t.v.! she of course after leaving jeff blackburn had joined 'dan hicks & his hot licks' recording on his debut album... amazing to think that most of this information/music/film has slipped through our fingers for so many years....enjoy what you see & hear!
