Geordie joined Killing Joke in March 1979, and just a few months later, their first recording was released in October of that year. His unique guitar style and contribution to the band's sound quickly made him a standout figure in the rock music scene. Geordie's guitar journey began when he received his first guitar as a Christmas gift in 1973. His mother, inspired by a Jimi Hendrix concert, suggested he try a Gibson Les Paul. Instantly hooked, Geordie started exploring the power of the instrument. Geordie's musical influences were diverse and eclectic. He was deeply inspired by Love Sculpture's cover version of "Sabre Dance" and Siouxsie and the Banshees' debut album, "The Scream." These influences shaped his approach to playing, emphasizing melody lines over solos. Geordie developed a unique guitar style that captivated audiences. He tuned his guitar a whole tone lower than standard, allowing for a distinctive resonance and volume. His choice of a hollow-bodied 1952 Gibson ES-295 with a trapeze tailpiece added to his signature sound. Geordie's guitar playing technique included bending all six notes of a chord simultaneously and incorporating augmented fourths and sevenths for an unnerving effect. Greats like Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin praised his strong sound, while Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine marveled at Geordie's ability to effortlessly produce a monstrous sound. Tragically, on 26th November 2023, Geordie Walker passed away in Prague, just two days after suffering a stroke. His death was a great loss to the music world, but his legacy lives on through his groundbreaking guitar playing and influential contributions to Killing Joke's discography. When he was eight years old, Geordie Walker was deeply marked by the guitar's sound in the song "Sabre Dance" by Love Sculpture. 4. Geordie Walker cited the band Love Sculpture featuring Dave Edmunds and their sound on the song Sabre Dance because "it used the guitar as a musical instrument to convey an atmosphere, it wasn't normal guitar playing which people feel they have to play, certain rhythms, certain solos, certain scales". 9. Geordie Walker named Siouxsie and the Banshees' debut album The Scream as an influence because their original guitarist John McKay "came out with these chord structures that I found very refreshing". 10. Geordie Walker's preferred guitar of choice is a hollow-bodied 1952 Gibson ES-295 in gold lacquer: an instrument previously used by Elvis Presley sideman Scotty Moore. 11.
