I interviewed Gene Gimble in 2013 at the Weiser Festival in Weiser, Idaho. Here he is talking about his early years and how he first got into playing music. In the background one can hear the festival jamming going on all around us. Gene was a fantastic music, and a hilarious and sweet person always having some jokes and funny stories as well as thousands of songs and tunes that he could play making him the life of any party or festival even up in his 90's. His younger brother was Johnny Gimble who became the famous swing style fiddler who is often most known for his work with the Bob Wills band. Just to clarify because it may have gotten less obvious with my editing it together, Gene's first guitar instruction that he talks about here came from his older brother Jack who would go out and find things out and then come home and show Gene. Gene said the band name they used for their trio when they were kids was "The Rose City Swingsters." Interview and video by Tara Linhardt.
John Paul Gimble was an American country musician associated with Western swing. He was considered one of the most important fiddlers in the genre. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 in the early influences category as a member of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys.
