Bouchard/March LES FELUETTES (Lilies) In French with English surtitles Playing April 20, 22, 28 | 2017 at 8 pm Sunday, April 30 at 2:30 pm The Royal Theatre, 805 Blanshard St., Victoria In French with English surtitles In 1912 a group of boys at a Quebec college rehearse Gabriele D'Annunzio’s sensual play, The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. As a devastating love triangle plays out, one boy dies, one is sent to prison, one becomes a bishop. Decades later, the bishop is made to watch as prisoners re-enact the tragedy. Based on a celebrated play by Michel Marc Bouchard, with the libretto by the playwright, Les Feluettes is a romantic drama of startling beauty. Composer Kevin March weaves a musical tapestry of waltz rhythms, French Canadian folk music, and the sophisticated lushness and bittersweet delicacy of Debussy – all grounded in the splendour of Bouchard's language. A new work co-commissioned by Pacific Opera Victoria and Productions ODM Inc. (for L’Opera de Montreal)
