"Universal Soldier" Buffy Sainte-Marie. 1964 (Practice)

Hello musical Friends and Family, Today's song is for the Folk Playlist is called "Universal Soldier" by Indigenous Canadian singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie. (A Lady Folk Artist and Native? Hell Yeah! Lol.) Okay, so the timeline of this song was it was written by Buffet Sainte-Marie somehwere in 1963, but a different group The Highwaymen, heard her lyrics did their version of this song in 1963. Then in 1964, Buffet released this version of her song, this was part of her album 'It's My Way' also released in 1964. It became a hit when the Artist Donovan did his version in 1965. Sainte-Marie said of the song: "I wrote 'Universal Soldier' in the basement of The Purple Onion coffee house in Toronto in the early sixties. It's about individual responsibility for war and how the old feudal thinking kills us all. The idea was based on that politicians, with power over the military, in democratic states are elected by the people." Beautiful and powerful song. Now that I think about it, Buffy is my first woman artist for the Folk Playlist. I was going for Joni Mitchell but this song, I couldn't put it down. Here is a practice today before work though. I will practice more on this later. Thank you so much Musical Friend Buffy Sainte-Marie for this gem. This song will be cherished by many from years to come.
