From American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, season 2, episode 4, aired February 7, 2018. As a very brief summary, the guy in the glasses is a cold-blooded killer, and the blonde guy is his (ex)lover who can’t seem to make up his mind about how to get away. The premise of season 2 is to chronicle the actions of spree killer Andrew Cunanan, who ultimately murdered Gianni Versace in 1997. As a long-time reader of true crime, the overarching idea is intriguing to me but the show itself struck me as particularly dark and ruthless. I may not have been quite in the right frame of mind for it tonight, or it might be because it’s just one unresolved piece of a longer story and I’m left with no resolution without watching the whole season… Regardless, Aimee Mann’s performance of “Drive” by The Cars is particularly sweet, and there’s an extra layer of coolness to it when one considers that she attended Berklee (like Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes) and launched her early 80s band, ‘Til Tuesday, from Boston with a little help from Ian Taylor and Syncro Sound Studios. R.E.M. was noted for Buck's arpeggiated "jangle" guitar playing; Stipe's distinctive vocal style, unique stage presence, and cryptic lyrics; Mills's countermelodic bass lines and backing vocals; and Berry's tight, economical drumming. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
