CRUSHED BUTLER Factory Grime VIDEO Dedicated in Loving Memory Darryl Michael Roy Read ( 19th September 1951 to 23rd June 2013 ) Lord of Council Estate Rock / Punk / today known as Proto Punk Cult Upholder of the Underground! Supporter of the Underdog! CRUSHED BUTLER Factory Grime VIDEO Darryl Read Berlin Tribute Event http://www.whitetrashfastfood.com/events/5739-live-darryl-read-tribute-night--dj-emmanuelle-5 Darryl was really enthusiastic about the CRUSHED BUTLER Love Fighter Video I had made, I was really very grateful for his appreciation and more so the fact he said he really liked my ideas, way I edited and synched things, and that we had similar views and backgrounds. Well to be honest I was quite taken aback, it's not everyday someone gives you praise for your ideas or hobby. Another time when discussing THE MAN WILL KNOW US WHEN WE GET THERE video I told him I had this stupid idea, about Factory Grime. So he asked me what it was and I told him I remembered him talking back in the DIG THE FUZZ days about how disillusioned himself and his friends were from the council estate, how if you weren't academically minded you knew you were more or less heading for the factories etc (although Darryl school wise was slightly luckier due to his acting ) he also mentioned later the band were fed up with Society / fashion, Hippies, Love 'n' Peace and the general acid aftermath carnage from the whole bloody lovin' scene which wasn't changing the world or anything else much. My Dad also told me about how he went straight to work at John Players factory Nottingham when he was 15, straight down into the pipe primary mixing tobacco, underground smelly dark and no windows or much air and how he ''couldn't breathe'' and he knew he ''just had to get out of here'' (see Factory Grime Lyrics). Also my Granddad, my Mums Dad worked there and this made him really ill. My Mum worked at the Raleigh Factory late 1950's ( Although in the Admin Building ) she recalls having to visit the works building which was dark horrible and scary to my Mum who had just arrived from school. possibly a similar time to when the film was made, anyways these were the ideas and thoughts which brought around the use of footage from Alan Sillitoe's book and Karel Reisz 1960 film Saturday Night And Sunday Morning which was mainly filmed in Nottingham and at the Raleigh Factory. Darryl happened to dig the idea and also a big fan of the film, I suppose my only concern as is always, was mixing these two together going to work as they were slightly different eras by a few years? Anyway I got it together sent Darryl a private link to view the video but as we know sadly this was never to be. So I can only hope he would have said ''Wow Paul Cat Great Viddy Maaaaann!'' plus hope most or some of you agree?. Ta! for watching!
