About This Footage

This rare interview footage of Middle Class Rut, an American alternative rock duo, is notable for its candid and personal conversation between Sean Stockham and Josh at Edgefest 21. The clip's brevity, clocking in at just over two minutes, belies the depth of insight it provides into the band's history and individual perspectives.

The conversation begins innocently enough, with Sean reminiscing about his first purchase with his own money - a Michael Jackson album. On the surface, this anecdote may seem trivial, but it reveals a fascinating aspect of Sean's musical upbringing. Growing up in an environment where he was exposed to diverse tastes, Sean's affinity for pop music is evident even at a young age. This early influence might have shaped his later approach to songwriting and performing.

The fact that Sean chose to discuss this personal detail with Josh suggests a level of comfort and trust between the two individuals. The relaxed atmosphere of Edgefest 21, where this conversation took place, likely contributed to this sense of camaraderie. The festival's eclectic lineup and laid-back vibe would have provided an ideal setting for artists to engage in informal discussions.

Middle Class Rut's history is marked by a distinctive sound that blends elements of alternative rock with other genres. Their debut album No Name No Color (2010) showcased the duo's ability to craft catchy, guitar-driven melodies. The follow-up, Pick Up Your Head (2013), demonstrated their willingness to experiment and push boundaries. This creative evolution was temporarily put on hold during a brief hiatus, but the band returned in 2018 with Gutters, a testament to their resilience and commitment to their art.

Sean's conversation with Josh serves as a reminder that even within the most established artists, there lies a rich tapestry of experiences and influences waiting to be explored. By sharing this anecdote, Sean offers a glimpse into his formative years, revealing how his early exposure to diverse musical styles shaped his artistic vision.

The rarity of this footage is also noteworthy. With many interviews and performances now readily available online, it's refreshing to come across clips like this one that offer a more intimate and unguarded look at the artist. The fact that it's been preserved on YouTube underscores its value as a historical document, providing fans with an unique perspective on Middle Class Rut's history.

In conclusion, this clip is not only a rare find but also a valuable addition to any fan of Middle Class Rut or alternative rock in general. It offers a captivating glimpse into the band's past and provides insight into Sean Stockham's personal experiences that have shaped his artistic journey.
