Col. Haines flew the B-24 Heavy Bomber in WWII.

This is a short film about a day when pilot Col. John Haines went to see the Collins group B-24, B-17 and an extremely rare P-51 trainer. He had flown the B-24 and then transitioned into the B-29 in WWII, ending the war training other pilots for the invasion of the Japanese home islands. John's long career also included landing in Hanoi before the great unpleasantness there, flying "dust-offs" in the Korean Conflict, and also flying single engine jets with a Fighter Wing in Germany in the 60's. He lost an engine in flight there and spent the night in a field on a German farm before being picked up. He was also the Air Force Safety Officer for the C5-A Galaxy program, and has received several commendations for his contributions to flight safety. As his son-in-law, much of this I have been able to determine by going through his personal records since, unfortunately, John's memory, like so many other veterans, is slowly slipping away. In the early 1990s, other alternative rock acts suc...
