Interview w/ Middle Class Rut @ Vans Warped Tour 2011 (August 2011)

About This Footage

The Vans Warped Tour, a staple of the summer festival circuit, has been a launching pad for countless bands over its two-decade run. One such act that benefited from this platform is Middle Class Rut, an American alternative rock duo hailing from Sacramento, California. A rare and intriguing clip on our archive showcases an interview with Zack Lopez and Sean Stockham, the core members of MC Rut, conducted by 99X's Lewis & Axel at the 2011 Vans Warped Tour.

Recorded in August 2011, this 5:54-minute footage offers a unique glimpse into the band's mindset during a pivotal moment in their career. At this point, Middle Class Rut had already released their debut full-length LP, No Name No Color, to moderate success in 2010. The album received praise for its energetic and introspective sound, but it was clear that the duo was still refining their craft.

The Vans Warped Tour, a festival known for showcasing up-and-coming acts alongside established names, provided Middle Class Rut with an opportunity to reach a wider audience. This setting likely influenced the tone of the interview, which appears relaxed and informal. Lewis & Axel's laid-back approach allows Zack and Sean to open up about their experiences on tour, sharing anecdotes that provide insight into the band's dynamic.

One aspect worth noting is the timing of this interview. The Vans Warped Tour was a summer staple, but by 2011, it had already begun to shift its focus towards more established acts. Middle Class Rut's presence at the festival suggests they were still building momentum, and this interview serves as a snapshot of their early days on the circuit.

The footage itself is notable for its rarity. As indicated in our tags, this clip falls under "Rare" content, implying that it may not have been widely available or easily accessible to fans. The fact that it has made its way onto our archive highlights the importance of preserving these types of behind-the-scenes moments.

In terms of context, Middle Class Rut's discography and career trajectory are worth examining in conjunction with this interview. Their second album, Pick Up Your Head, released three years later, saw a more refined sound, but also a brief hiatus that would eventually lead to their third album, Gutters, in 2018.

This 2011 Vans Warped Tour interview serves as a time capsule for Middle Class Rut's early days on the festival circuit. It offers fans and enthusiasts an opportunity to experience the band's energy and camaraderie firsthand, providing context for their subsequent releases and career milestones.
