TEARS - FAIRPORT CONVENTION
Why this simple and yet majestic song had to end up as only the B-side of the Fairport Convention single "White Dress" is way beyond me. Written and sung by Trevor Lucas "Tears" is as good a tune as any other on the band's "Rising For The Moon" LP, for which it was recorded and originally intended. The warmth of Trevor's sonorous voice (with his wife Sandy Denny's piano playing in the background), Jerry Donahue's melodic lead guitar and the wistful pedal steel lines make it a minor and underrated classic of 1975 'Fairport Convention'. Fairport Convention are an English folk rock band, formed in 1967 by guitarists Richard Thompson and Simon Nicol, bassist Ashley Hutchings and drummer Shaun Frater.
