Formed in Washington DC in August 1979, whose members were Nathan Strejcek, Geordie Grindle, Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson. They recorded two demos and an EP, released before the separation in 1980. They were the first band to record for the independent label Dischord Records, besides being spearhead in both the straight edge movement and the hardcore DC, after the separation, MacKaye and Nelson would form the seminal punk group Minor Threat.

It emerged with the first wave of American punk bands and its original members were the singer Exene Cervenka, bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom and drummer DJ Bonebrake.
